Equine physio and chiropractic

Horses are athletes. Physiotherapy can help to maintain and enhance mobility to keep them comfortable and happy in their work

When to seek help for your horse

Horses, like humans, can experience a range of physical and behavioural issues that impact their performance, comfort, and overall well-being. Recognising the signs that your horse may need treatment is essential for addressing problems early.

Look for these common signs that your horse may need treatment:

  • Uneven strides or movement

  • Uneven wear of shoes

  • Sore or cold backs, uneven pressure from saddles or the saddle slipping to one side

  • Unexplained deterioration in usual performance

  • Asymmetry, such as stiffness on one rein, or a disunited canter

  • Unexplained resistances, such as napping, rearing, refusing, bucking, etc.

  • Uneven muscle development or atrophy

  • Changes in behaviour

  • Saddle slip

What problems can physio and chiropractic help with?

Common equine problems that treatment can help with include:

  • Wound healing

  • Gait re-education

  • Tendon and ligament damage

  • Muscles strains or spasms

  • Back pain including Kissing Spine

  • Post-surgery rehabilitation

  • Saddle problems

  • Pre/Post Competition treatment

  • Lameness

Case Studies

Billy

Billy is 22 years old and was diagnosed with arthritis in his hocks a few years ago.

He gets regular physiotherapy treatments to help keep him comfortable and maintain his strength and mobility

Here Billy is enjoying his treatment and showing some releases as I work through his areas of tension

Tanna

Tanna is a Highland Pony who started treatment because she suffered long term muscle damage from an accident some time ago and subsequent concussive laminitis that required remedial farriery.

I worked closely with her farrier, vet and trainer as part of a team to help get her sound for a comfortable ridden career.

Tanna now gets regular treatments to help keep her comfortable

“I have so much to be grateful to Joy for… My mare (Tanna) is a sensitive soul and currently still gets three monthly checks with Joy, including body massage, laser treatment if necessary, and a ongoing exercise programme for us to follow at home.”

Glenda, Tanna’s owner
